Frequently Asked Questions

You asked, we answered.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise program focused on core stability that incorporates strength training, balance and improved flexibility. Through a combination of breathing and flowing movements, muscles are lengthened and strengthened. Pilates is an excellent complement to other forms of fitness training because it teaches proper muscle movement and body alignment for injury prevention, recovery from overuse and general well-being.

We are pleased to offer both private studio training with the Pilates apparatus and small group classes with a 6-person maximum.

How do group classes work?

Group classes have a minimum of 4 student and won’t get larger than 6. They run for 55 minutes. These classes are taught on the top-of-the-line Pilates Reformers in our studio.

How do I sign up for group classes?

Those interested in taking group classes must first complete 5 private sessions before taking group classes. This is for safety reasons. Your private instruction will acquaint you with the equipment and the vocabulary of Pilates. You’ll then be ready for lighter supervision in the group class.

After that, feel free to join any group that’s working out at your skill level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Group classes won’t be larger than 6 participants so be sure to call and reserve your place in the class you want, in advance.

What about drop-ins to scheduled classes?

Drop-ins are permitted provided space is available and the skill level does not exceed yours. We recommend you call in advance to ensure your place in the class. Please be prepared to pay by credit card if you call to reserve.

How do I pay for classes?

We can arrange for you to either purchase each class individually, or you can save some money by purchasing a 5-session group of classes. Feel free to ask us about these series rates.

Can I share a private session with someone else - a Duet Partner?

If you’d like to reduce the cost of a private session, one way to do this is to ask us to help you find a partner to work out with you. We call this a Duet Partner. Ideally it’s someone at your same skill level. Call us if you’d like to do this, and we’ll do all we can to match you up with a Duet Partner.

What if I’m running late?

Please call the studio at (650) 949-3031 so that the receptionist can inform the instructor; you may need to leave a message.

What if I need to cancel?

If you can’t make it to your class, please cancel with 24 hours notice to avoid paying for a full session. Please call (650) 949-3031 and leave a message. The exact time of your call will be recorded so that a late cancellation fee can be avoided. This is the only way you can cancel without being charged.

Where do I store my stuff when I take a class?

We have beautiful, convenient cubbies in which you can place your belongings. Nothing is left overnight.

Can I use my cell phone in the studio?

Unless it’s a true emergency we ask that you turn your cell phone off and put it in your assigned storage “cubby” during your workout. If you must make a call, please step outside so it doesn’t disturb others.
